Georgia resident Robin Crawley was uninjured after rolling her pickup truck over on Rt. 218 in Whitefield Saturday afternoon, emergency personnel said.
According to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chad Gilbert, Crawley was caught off guard by the stop sign at the intersection of Heath Road and Rt. 218. Gilbert and Whitefield first responders received the call at 3:35 p.m., shortly after Crawley became stuck in her overturned vehicle in the southbound ditch of Rt. 218.
Whitefield Fire Chief Jim Brann said responders had to take the back seat apart and helped Crawley out through the rear window of her truck when they arrived. Brann said she was, “very lucky” not to have been injured.
Gilbert said Crawley had been visiting a friend in Whitefield and was unfamiliar with the Heath Road. He said she was driving over the crest of hill just before the intersection and realized the stop sign was there a little too late.
Crawley hit her brakes and turned the steering wheel toward the southbound lane to avoid driving over the embankment on the opposite side of Rt. 218. The truck caught the edge of road on the southbound side and rolled over one and a half times, according to Gilbert’s estimation.
He said Crawley had been wearing her seatbelt.
