The Lincoln County Animal Shelter has alerted police about a case of animal cruelty involving a dog brought to the shelter 10 days ago.
According to animal shelter office manager Carrie Koskella, the dog was found to be riddled with BBs. The Waldoboro Animal Control Officer brought in the dog, identified as a stray, female, black lab.
“We brought her to the vets to be spayed and have her bumps on her face and nose checked out,” Koskella wrote in a Facebook posting. “The bumps looked like old scars or bug bites. The check resulted in an x-ray which showed the dog riddled with BB shot.”
The dog showed no previous signs of discomfort and is currently doing well in a new home, Koskella wrote. “She is super happy in her new home and being very well cared for. However, the Waldoboro Police Department is investigating this cruel act and should anyone have any information please contact the Waldoboro Police Department.”
The Waldoboro Police can be reached at 832-4500. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office can be reached at 882-7332.
