A two-vehicle traffic collision on Rt. 1 in Nobleboro at the intersection of Vannah and Winslow Hill Roads, June 16 snarled traffic for more than an hour and sent the three vehicle occupants involved to the hospital.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, around 10:43 a.m., Peggy Olson, 49, of Bristol was operating a 1994 Geo Prism sedan and was stopped in the southbound travel lane, waiting to make a left turn onto Winslow Hill Road. A 13-month-old child was restrained in a car seat in the back seat.
Catherine Bunin-Stevenson, 43, of Vinalhaven, was alone and traveling south on Rt. 1 in a 2005 Cadillac Escalade SUV.
Bunin-Stevenson failed to see the Olson vehicle stopped and struck it in the rear in the southbound travel lane. The Olson vehicle rotated clockwise and came to rest facing north in the southbound lane.
The Bunin-Stevenson vehicle crossed the northbound travel lane and came to rest in the breakdown lane.
All three people involved were transported to Miles Hospital for treatment of what was reported to be non-life threatening injuries. Later in the day, the child was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland with two broken legs.
Members of the Nobleboro Fire and First Responders and Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service responded to treat the injured.
LCSO Deputy Brian Collamore and Sergeant Jason Nein responded to the scene and conducted an investigation. No charges are being contemplated at this time.
