Two people were killed and third person seriously injured in a three-car collision at the intersection of Country Club Road and Rt. 27 in Boothbay Aug. 23.
According to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstructionist Sgt. Jason Nein, the crash occurred after a southbound 2009 Dodge Durango, operated by Mechelle Spencer, 66, Southport Island, crossed the centerline and struck a northbound 2009 Chevrolet Equinox SUV operated by Sherrill Mansir, 61, of Pittston, head-on around 4:38 p.m.
A following vehicle, a northbound 2007 Honda Civic operated by Philip McGuire, 34, Aberdeen, N.J. made minor contact with the Mansir vehicle. McGuire and a passenger were not injured, Nein said.
According to Sgt. Nein, Spencer succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Mansir was extricated by rescue personal and transported to Miles Memorial Hospital and later Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious life threatening injuries.
A passenger in the Mansir vehicle, Elaine Robinson, 66, Sydney, was extricated by rescue personnel and transported to St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Nein said several witnesses reported seeing Spencer’s gray Durango operating erratically just prior to the crash. Witnesses described swerving and weaving motion by the Durango, Nein said.

Following standard operating procedure, blood samples were taken from all involved, Nein said. At press time, the accident remains under investigation.
