A 16-year-old victim was trapped in his overturned vehicle for over an hour as emergency responders worked to extricate him at an accident scene on Gardiner Rd. (Rt. 27) near Russel Lane in Dresden Wednesday afternoon.
The victim was described as “coherent and talking” before he was removed from the vehicle and taken to an ambulance nearby. The victim was subsequently transported to Central Maine Medical Center by a LifeFlight helicopter with injuries that were described as “non-life threatening” by an official on the scene.
There were two separate accidents at the Gardiner Rd. location.
The first occurred when the 16-year-old was driving southbound on Rt. 27 and drifted off the side of the road onto the shoulder, according to Sgt. Jason Nein with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO). His vehicle subsequently hit two utility poles that caused guy wires mounted on the poles to be dragged into the scene, according to Sgt. Nein.
The 16-year-old was the only occupant of the vehicle, according to Sgt. Nein.
A delivery truck that was northbound on Rt. 27 shortly after the accident hit some of the downed guy wires and then also became involved in an accident, according to Sgt. Nein. The two men in that vehicle were unhurt, but the vehicle will probably be a total loss, according to Sgt. Nein.
Firefighters from Dresden and Wiscasset and deputies with the LCSO responded to the incident.
The traffic accident was first reported at approximately 3:30 p.m.
