The arrest of an Augusta man at Damariscotta Lake State Park Aug. 11 left some local residents buzzing.
Eyewitnesses at the park reported seeing four or five black cars “with tinted windows” surround a vehicle and officers removed a man and a woman from the surrounded vehicle at gunpoint.
U.S. Marshal Service Acting Chief Deputy Sean Willitts identified the arrested man as Zachary Gagnon, 32. Gagnon was wanted on a federal probation violation, Willitts said.
The violation is believed to stem from Gagnon’s sentence for a 2001 robbery of a pharmacy, Willitts said.
Gagnon’s companion was not arrested or charged, Willitts said.
