The Waldoboro Board of Selectmen received a letter at their Nov. 8 meeting from a resident requesting they add the Pledge of Allegiance to their agenda. The board voted to table the issue until their next meeting, Tues., Nov. 22.
Resident Katie Winchenbach sent the letter and said after the meeting she feels strongly that the pledge should be recited at the start every meeting. Winchenbach said the pledge is symbolic of the sacrifice of America’s soldiers.
About half of Lincoln County boards of selectmen say the pledge at their meetings. School boards typically recite the pledge. The Maine legislature recites the pledge before their sessions.
At previous Waldoboro selectmen’s meetings, members of the audience requested the pledge be recited. Those requests have been honored.
Chairman Clint Collamore was absent from the Nov. 22 meeting and the board tabled the matter for his return next meeting.
