A car accident on Route 1 in Edgecomb at approximately 2:47 p.m. on April 15 sent two Walpole residents to different area hospitals. They have since been discharged.
Robert Flory Jr., 65, of Walpole, was driving a 2014 Volvo north on Route 1 in Edgecomb, in the vicinity of the Midcoast Federal Credit Union.
Flory reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel and drove into a ditch, striking a culvert before the vehicle came to a rest, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Rand Maker said.
Edgecomb and Wiscasset fire departments, the Wiscasset Ambulance Service, and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the scene. Robert Flory and his passenger, Kathleen Flory, 65, of Walpole, were extricated from the vehicle by the Wiscasset Fire Department.
Robert Flory was transported to Lincoln Health – Miles Campus where he was treated and released later that evening, a Lincoln Health – Miles Campus communications official said.
Kathleen Flory was transported to Maine Medical Center where she was treated and discharged later that evening, a Maine Medical Center communications official said.
Traffic along Route 1 was congested until the scene was cleared at approximately 3:32 p.m., Maker said.
