Forecasters are calling for a two-part storm to chug through Lincoln County, with the first part during the daytime hours of Tuesday, and the second part during the daytime hours of Wednesday. While the Tuesday snowfall is forecast to be relatively light, early indications are that the Wednesday snowfall combined with high winds should make for a significant event. The heaviest snowfall is presently forecast for Wednesday mid-day.
At least one broadcast forecaster has referred to the coming storm as the “biggest storm of the season” so far. However, the event is still several days away, so any forecast is obviously subject to change.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has yet to issue any watches or warnings for this event. The next NWS bulletin should be issued in the mid-afternoon hours of Monday, and may include the first Hazardous Weather Outlook regarding this storm. (Note: Generally, The Lincoln County News does not post Weather Alerts unless the NWS has issued an advisory of some sort. However, based on the consensus of forecasts, this event was judged to be potentially significant enough to warrant early coverage.)
The huge weather system bringing us this event is presently wreaking havoc in the Midwest. It is forecast to slide south of us on Tuesday, with its northern edge bringing 1-3 inches of snowfall during the day, then move out by nightfall. The system is then forecast to slide out over the Atlantic and strengthen overnight, returning in full force during the day on Wednesday.
The Lincoln County News website will continue to follow the progress of this event, and post any additional information here as soon as it becomes available.
