Hoping to build on last year’s success, the Whitefield Lions Club is sponsoring the second annual David Dixon Memorial Blood Drive on Fri., May 21 from 1 – 6 p.m.
Lion Andy Morse said of the 2009 drive, organized shortly after Dixon’s untimely death, “We couldn’t have fit any more donors” into the den on Main St., Coopers Mills. The American Red Cross, Morse added, “was amazed we pulled it together so fast.”
Those who wish to make an appointment may do so by calling 1-800-733-2767, but walk-ins are welcome. “We love walk-ins,” Morse said.
All presenting donors will receive a free day entry to a Maine State park and will have a chance to win two Boston Red Sox tickets. For more information on the latter, log on to redcrosssblood.org/promotions/ma/blood-donor-game.
Morse said the Lions have been planning the drive since last year’s event, which brought in about 80 pints, he estimated.
Dixon was a Sheepscot Valley Health Center board member and a dedicated Coopers Mills VFD firefighter who helped organize the company’s annual, highly successful auction.
