At press time Jan. 19 firefighters from Whitefield, Somerville, Jefferson, Pittston, Alna were responding to a structure fire on Northeast Lane, just off of Rt. 218 and near the intersection of Rt. 17 in Whitefield.
According to Jefferson Fire Chief Walter Morris, information given to mutual aid first responders and firefighters indicated nobody was in the mobile home, which was fully involved as firefighters began arriving on scene.
“If there’s people in there, our main priority is to get them out,” Morris said, adding that a search and rescue team did not need to be sent into the home.
As of 9 a.m., firefighters were still knocking down the flames on what was left of the home. There are a few other homes nearby, but they were not threatened.
The roads were slick and one fire truck from Alna almost made it to the scene, but skidded off the road, just a few hundred yards from the fire scene.
