The first major winter storm of the season is expected to visit Lincoln County on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Precipitation is a certainty, according to forecasters… But whether that precipitation comes in as rain, snow, an icy mix — or all of the above — is still purely speculation.
Local broadcast forecasters are calling for 6 to 12 inches of accumulated snowfall, but primarily for areas west of the Route 1 corridor. The NWS is calling for “heavy snow accumulation” for the Lincoln County area, while a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for counties to the west and south. Presently, most forecasts agree that the Lincoln County peninsulas should see more rain than snow.
Precipitation, in whatever form, is forecast to begin in the pre-dawn hours of Thursday and continue through the day. Both the morning and evening commutes on Thursday should be affected by the possibility of weather that could cause slushy roadways, according to the NWS forecast.
The Lincoln County News will continue to monitor the progress of this event and post any additional information here as soon as it becomes available.
