The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Winter Storm Watch on Sunday that is noteworthy for its lack of focus on a singular event. Instead the NWS advisory warns that a combination of very cold temps, high winds, and the likelihood of a low pressure area offshore extending a trough into the midcoast will bring Lincoln County the possibility of heavy snow beginning late Monday night into Tuesday.
With the forecast snowfall still some time away, and the number of elements required to combine in order for the event to occur, there is still a possibility that the forecast could change.
According to the NWS, any snowfall should be localized to coastal areas and may accumulate in the 4 to 8 inch range. The Winter Storm Watch is in effect from late Monday night through Tuesday afternoon. Hourly forecasts on intellicast.com indicate the greatest probability of snowfall is for the early morning hours of Tuesday around sunrise.
Prior to and during that time, Lincoln County residents should be shivering through daytime high temps in the teens and nighttime lows in the single digits, with wind chills ranging into the negative single digits, according to forecasts.
The Lincoln County News will continue to follow the progress of this event and post any additional information here as soon as it is obtained.
