A Winter Storm Watch issued on Sunday by the National Weather Service (NWS) was withdrawn on Monday afternoon for the Lincoln County area. Areas south of Lincoln County, beginning in Cumberland County and extending south into northern Massachusetts are presently under a Winter Storm Warning for Monday night and Tuesday.
The impetus behind this ever-changing array of weather alerts is an unusual combination of conditions that is forecast to draw a trough of moisture from a low-pressure area offshore close enough to the coast to cause heavy snowfall when the moisture combines with coastal cold air. The forecast track for this event apparently slid further south during the day on Monday.
Nonetheless, Lincoln County will still see some snowfall beginning in the overnight hours of Monday and continuing through the day on Tuesday; but not the 4 to 8 inches forecast in the Winter Storm Watch. Instead, the present forecast call for variable rates of snowfall through the day with accumulation in the 1 to 3 inch range.
Of course, even that forecast is subject to change so The Lincoln County News will continue to follow the progress of this event and post any additional information here as soon as it is obtained.
