Wiscasset First Selectman Bob Blagdon announced the town hired Laurie Smith as the new Wiscasset Town Manager at the meeting of the board of selectmen June 1
Interim Town Manager Don Gerrish applauded Smith’s experience. “You’ll be very pleased with the work she’ll do in the community,” he said.
Smith could not be reached for comment for this article. According to her resumé, she has been the town manager of Boothbay (1988-89), Oxford (1991-1994) and Boothbay Harbor (1994-1999).
Since 1999 she has held various positions with the city of Auburn, including the position of Interim City Manager (2007-08). Currently she is Auburn’s Assistant City Manager.
According to Smith’s resumé, Wiscasset can expect a “Goal-oriented individual with strong leadership capabilities.” Among her responsibilities in Auburn, Smith listed the development of “a $64 million annual budget,” as well as her responsibility for “the welfare, actions and productivity of 235 employees.”
After providing notice to Auburn and taking some personal time, Gerrish said Smith will start July 19.
