According to Wiscasset Town Clerk Christine Wolfe, the nomination papers are in for those seeking to serve on the new Wiscasset School Committee.
The deadline to submit nomination papers was Thursday, Dec. 5, at 5 p.m. There are five seats open on the school committee; one term expires in June 2014, two terms expire in June 2015, and two terms expire June 2016. There is competition in two of the three races.
There are two candidates seeking the one seat open for the term to expire in June 2014 are Coleen Bennett, and Wenonah Wirick. There are two seeking the two seats to expire June 2015, Eugene Stover and Glenn Craig.
There is competition for the two terms set to expire in 2016. The candidates include Doug Smith, Sharon Nichols and Steven Smith.
Wiscasset voters will have an opportunity to meet the candidates at “Candidates Night” on Thursday, Dec. 19, at the Wiscasset Middle School Cafeteria, at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Wiscasset Budget Committee.
Residents are asked to prepare written questions for the candidates. If time allows questions will also be fielded from the floor, according to Budget Committee Chairman Robert Blagden.
Absentee ballots for the election of Wiscasset School Committee will be available at the town office beginning Monday, Dec. 9, through the close of business Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014.
The election will be held Tuesday, Jan. 7, at the Wiscasset Community Center, 242 Gardiner Rd. (Route 27). The polls will be open from 8 a.m through 8 p.m.
