In a regularly scheduled meeting Oct 19, the Wiscasset Board of Selectmen approved a warrant for a Dec. 7 town vote to authorize a revised budget for the planning board, for the rest of the fiscal year.
In a vote of 4-1, the board decided to reduce the amount of allocated weekly hours for the town planner from 40 to 30. Chairman David Nichols was the lone dissenter citing a desire to keep the hours at the current level.
“The town needs a planner. This is a compromise, as I’m afraid of having nothing,” said Selectman Ed Polewarczyk.
The scheduled events are a circus, motorcycle rally, and a music festival.
White was denied permits for a country music festival and a return of Oxxfest, a heavy metal concert that drew over 10,000 rock fans to Wiscasset in July 2010.
“The three events we approved are all expected to draw less than 3000 people and the racetrack has the current capability to handle that. We just want more information for the other two. Public safety is our number one priority,” Polewarczyk said.
The country music festival and Oxxfest are expected, according to White, to draw between 7500 and 10,000 fans respectively.
The selectmen will next meet on Election Day, Nov. 2.
