The walking tour through Wiscasset, led by historical researcher Sally Lobkowicz of Red Cloak Tours, begins at the Ancient Burial Ground on Federal Street. This will give you insight into some of the hardships early Wiscasset settlers encountered as well as symbolism meanings on the headstones and other cemetery lore. Learn of George Washington’s bodyguard, Civil War Soldiers, Chief Justice Samuel Sewall and more.
On your walk past the Sunken Garden and up along High Street you will hear the early history of Wiscasset, why it was almost chosen as the Maine state capital, who lived in all the beautiful homes, what is so special about the courthouse and many anecdotal tales which will bring historical Wiscasset alive.
Visit historic Castle Tucker and the Nickels-Sortwell House of Historic New England, with a lunch break in between, to see what life in the 1800’s was like for these local Wiscasset families. Step back in time on guided tours through their homes and lives, which will lend a very personal side to your experience of Old Wiscasset today.
No rain date, bring umbrellas, lunch on your own, not included in price.
