Event Type
Celebrate summer and join the party at Cocktails at the Castle, Historic New England’s annual fundraiser for Wiscasset’s Castle Tucker, from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 13. Help preserve this unique historical treasure while basking in the spectacular view of the Sheepscot River and delighting the palate with delicious Maine hors d’oeuvres from Back River Bistro.
The evening includes an after-hours look inside one of Maine’s most fascinating historic houses. Castle Tucker, built in 1807, was the dream home of Judge Silas Lee and his wife Tempe, who enjoyed an elegant lifestyle in their unusual new mansion.
In 1858, Richard Tucker Jr. and his young wife Mollie moved into the house, immediately turning it into a fashionable Victorian home for their family of five children, who went on to live extraordinary lives outside Wiscasset. Hear the stories of this talented family revealed in a collection of personal letters saved by their granddaughter.
Very little was changed in the house after 1900, so visitors see the interiors as the Tuckers left them, filled with their furnishings, belongings, and decor, including the 1858 parlor and a kitchen with four generations of cooking technology still in place where it was used.
Advance ticket purchase is required. Tickets are $45 per person and are available at my.historicnewengland.org/18687/cocktails-at-the-castle or by calling 882-7169.
