Event Type
Experience a unique trip over the Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Railway using a traditional handcar (aka “pump car”) used by railway workers maintaining this line in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
This unique experience allows a group of 2-4 adventurers (ages 10 and older only please) to join one of our crew on a fully customizable, human-powered, 90-minute trip over the railway. After some brief training and safety instruction, our handcar hop will set out from Sheepscot Station on the WW&F mainline. The length of journey and experience can be tailored to each group, with a focus on endurance, learning more about the railway, seeing wildlife along the line, or enjoying a totally different way to travel over the railway.
Groups larger than 4 can be split among shorter trips during the 90-minute session.
Additional Information:
Because of the physical nature of operating the pump car, each participant must have reasonable physical stamina, good balance, and the ability to safely board and disembark from the car. There can be no “passengers” on the handcar, and all participants must be tall enough to safely and firmly grasp the moving handbar at all times.
Due to the nature of the unique (but extremely fun) activity, those with mobility or physical limitations can not participate. Please check our calendar for other trains which are accessible to all passengers.
