December 22 is the day when we welcome the arrival of winter. For us in the Northern Hemisphere, the December solstice marks the longest night and shortest day of the year. Celebrate the official arrival of winter by joining Maine Master Naturalist Kit Pfeiffer of the Whitefield Trails Committee on December 21 at 10:00 a.m. for a short morning hike on the rerouted Happy Farm River Trail along the Sheepscot River, followed by a Dutch treat lunch after you hike at Sheepscot General on the Townhouse Road in Whitefield. A great way to celebrate the official arrival of winter. Meet at the trailhead at the Recycling Center, behind the town office on Townhouse Road in North Whitefield. Wear sturdy shoes (or bring snow shoes) and layers appropriate for the weather. You might also want to bring a hot or cold beverage, your camera, and binoculars.
The pace will be moderate, allowing participants to socialize and ask questions as they walk
Suggested donation: $5. Advanced registration required. Call 563-1363. Community members across all generations, including home schooled students, are encouraged to attend this workshop.
