Boothbay Region Historical Society presents Mapping Maine: A Boothbay Region Historical Society Fundraiser Sunday, August 18th at 5:30pm, doors open and refreshments and drinks available at 5:00
Hosted by Harbor Theater
For the second year in a row, Boothbay Region Historical Society is fortunate enough to partner with Harbor Theater, bringing you special historical programming in their wonderful cinema setting. This year we are celebrating Maine’s (and Boothbay’s) cartographic history with a program entitled, “Mapping Maine”.
This packed evening includes a special abbreviated viewing of the MPBN “From the Vault” documentary, “Maine on the Map”, originally shown in 1996, focusing on early maps of Maine. Then Libby Bischof, Executive Director of Osher Map Library in Portland, brings the topic of maps into the present day and Boothbay region with her talk, “The Romance Map of Maine: Boothbay Women and Pictorial Mapmaking in the 20th Century.” The talk uses a beautifully illustrated 1936 map of Maine, compiled by Boothbay schoolteacher Grace F. Dodge, and summer resident Alice Fowler, and illustrated by Mildred Greene to discuss the concept of pictorial maps, which rose to popularity in the 20th century.
Tickets: $30 each
Includes beverages and light refreshments
