The Edgecomb Historical Society would like to extend an open invitation to join us on Saturday, March 24th, at 7 PM at the Edgecomb Town Hall. Our speaker for the evening will be none other than Edgecomb’s own Van Reid.Once asked how long he had been researching his novels that mostly take place in late 19th century Maine, Van Reid replied, “All my life.” Regaled since childhood with family tales and having inherited his parents’ fascination with history, it was perhaps inevitable that his desire to “write for a living” would eventually coincide with old ways and olden days.
Van’s historical fiction (following the adventures of an old-fashioned gentlemen’s club called The Moosepath League), incorporate mystery, romance, folklore, and a large dollop of humor. They have garnered positive and sometimes starred reviews across the country and his first book, “Cordelia Underwood”, was named a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. They are currently available in new editions from Down East Books,
On March 24th at the Edgecomb Town Hall , Van will be speaking to the Edgecomb Historical Society about family tales, tales of Edgecomb and Maine, writing historical fiction, tall tales, Maine humor, and his adventures in historical research and the world of books. There will be a question and answer session after his talk. Admission is by donation.
