Three days of holiday magic inside the Opera House. Plan your season to include a visit to check out the 2025 confectionery creations – gingerbread castles and cabins, farms and cottages, and dozens of surprises both large and small. Community members and bakers from afar always dazzle us with their creativity, while competing for the coveted honor of “Most Spectacular!” This event also features live music, and a wonderful holiday bake sale by The Friends of the Opera House. Free, open daily: Friday, December 12 from noon-6:00pm.
Saturday, December 13 from 10am-4:00pm. Sunday, December 14 from 11am-3pm.
Those interested in designing and building an entry for this year’s Gingerbread Spectacular are asked to contact the Opera House at 207-633-6855 for rules and entry dates.

This is a free community event and no tickets are required, but please bring a potluck dish ample enough to share with neighbors and new friends while celebrating the season! Billboard charting classical-crossover quartet, Sons of Serendip, won the hearts of fans and judges alike as finalists on America’s Got Talent with their ethereal and emotionally stirring interpretations of pop music, arranged with a unique blend of vocals, harp, piano, and cello. Notable performances include collaborations with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and Cynthia Erivo.

St. Cecilia Chamber Choir will present its popular annual Lessons and Carols Christmas concerts on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 4:00 p.m. at Bowdoin College Chapel in Brunswick, and Sunday, Dec. 21 at 4:00 p.m.
at Damariscotta Baptist Church. Linda Blanchard is St. Cecilia’s artistic director, assisted by organist Sean Fleming. Advance tickets are strongly encouraged for these concerts. “You were as good as ever!” “The whole thing was just beautiful!” “I’m so glad we came!” are a few of the audience comments from recent concerts.
A beautiful new setting of the Gerard Manley Hopkins poem “The Bethlehem Star” by former King’s Singers member Bob Chilcott will be featured. The John Rutter favorites “Sing We To This Merry Company” and “Past Three O’Clock” will be performed, as well as Richard Francis’ ever-popular “People, Look East” based on Eleanor Farjeon’s Christmas poem. The Choir will sing a jazz-influenced setting of the Thomas Hardy poem “The Oxen” by former Swingle Singers music director Jonathan Rathbone. And “Drop Down, Ye Heavens” by the phenomenal organist Anna Lapwood. Also featured will be works by Stanford, Archer, and Taylor Scott Davis. A professional string quartet will accompany the group on select pieces. As a special treat, Eric Whitacre’s “Glow,” composed for the “World of Color – Winter Dreams” show which premiered at Disney California Adventure Park in California, will be performed.
With audience sing-along caroling using several of David Willcocks’ arrangements, this concert is sure to be a treat for the whole family.
Tickets are $25 for the Bowdoin Chapel concert and $20 for the Damariscotta Baptist Church concert. Admission is free for students and children. The next Ocean on Tap is Thursday January 15, 6pm, at Footbridge Brewery in Boothbay Harbor. Join Dr. Robyn Linner, of the Maine Department of Marine Resources, for a conversation about how scientific surveys get fishes a “voice” to teach us about our changing ocean.
Ocean on Tap is an informal, ocean-centric speaker series organized by researchers from Bigelow Laboratory and hosted by Footbridge Brewery in Boothbay Harbor. Our goal is to bring people of the community together over the fascinating world of the ocean. At these events, speakers will share their corner of expertise in the ocean, and attendees are encouraged to ask questions.

The 2026 Open Mic Season begins tonight. Doors for sign-ups open at 5:30pm and the mic goes live at 6pm. Bring a song, a poem, a comedy sketch or what-have-you (?) and gather with neighbors and friends in the upstairs bar area of the Opera House. Emcee: Eric Lowe. In an effort to allow as many people as possible to share their talent, mic time is limited to 10 minutes/2 songs. Depending upon how many sign-ups there are at the door, a second trip to the mic may be possible. Cold drinks for sale at the bar. Our volunteer Friends group will have homemade chili and cornbread, coffee & desserts for sale.
Cover charge for all – $5 at the door.

Kitten Yoga in Lincoln County!
Midcoast Humane is proud to partner with Live From Love Center in Bremen to offer Kitten Yoga to our supporters in Lincoln County!
This yoga class provides a great beginner yoga experience while also providing participants the stress-relieving benefits of kitten cuddles! Kittens join yogis in this class and help us learn to relax and stretch.
Participants:
Participants will be responsible for bringing their own mat, but an alternative can be provided if needed.
Run time:
The class will be 45 minutes long, with 15 minutes at the end to spend more time with the kittens.
Children:
We ask that only participants 13 and up attend.

Poets from the Midcoast will read from their work at the Waldoboro Public Library (958 Main St.) on Saturday Jan. 24 from 1:30 – 3:00PM, followed by an Open Mic, which members of the public may join. During the Open Mic, you can share your own poem or the work of a poet you admire.
The first and second editions of the Midcoast Poetry Journal will be available for purchase. Entry to this event is free of charge and it is sponsored by the Friends of the Waldoboro Library.
If you’re inspired by the poetry you hear, submissions are open to the third edition of the Journal until January 31st.
