The Sweet Remains is the rare all-independent band to have nearly 60 million Spotify streams and counting! They’re also unusual on today’s music scene as a band headed by 3 gifted singer-songwriters, each of whom contribute to the writing and 3-part harmonies that define the band’s sound. Their songs easily appeal to fans of modern folk-rockers like Ray Lamontagne and John Mayer. However, it is their lush harmonies, that distinguish tSR from the throngs of guitar-toting troubadours and harken back to super-groups of the 60’s and 70’s like CSN, the Eagles, Simon & Garfunkel.
Advance discount tickets $25, available only from the box office at 207-633-5159 (open Wed – Fri from 10-2). Regular tickets $30 online at boothbayoperahouse.com, and on the day of show if available.
If you haven’t already seen it, or even if you have, you might want to check out this film featuring the band…Inspired by Rich, Greg & Brian’s real-life experiences together as a band, “The Independents” tells the story of 3 solo-artists who meet at a
crossroads and discover harmony… Made over several years in between the band’s tours and other releases, The Independents debuted at the Santa Barbara Int’l Film Festival where The Hollywood Reporter hailed it “An extremely engaging film. An unconventional and sharply written script which subverts all the cliches of the star-is-born story.” It then won the jury prize for BEST FEATURE FILM at the Omaha Film Festival — and has gone on to win audiences and plaudits at top festivals all over the U.S.

Enjoy ‘Only Mostly Dead’ on the deck at the Coveside. Maine artists Cam King (guitar), James Taylor (bass) and Josh Bowden (drums) jam with veteran keyboardist ‘Old Otto,’ playing, yes, MOSTLY Grateful Dead, but spicing it tunes from Steppenwolf, Rolling Stones, Al Green, CSN, the Meters and more. Come get your feet moving and spirits lifted Sunday, on the deck, at the incomparable Coveside. …Maybe have a Dark-and-Stormy with that lobster BLT?

Author Carol Gardner will discuss her narrative history, The Divided North: Black & White Families in the Age of Slavery from 4:00-5:30 pm on Saturday, June 7 at the Historic 1789 Alna Meetinghouse, 1789 Alna Road. The Divided North follows two Maine families throughout the turbulent 19th century. The Rubys and Gordons were neighbors in Portland, Maine. Yet they were worlds apart, separated by family culture and race: the Rubys were Black and the Gordons were White. Their experiences as antislavery activists, operatives on the Underground Railroad, shipmasters, and slave captains offer a surprising portrait of life in the “Free North” when slavery enthralled the nation. The talk is sponsored by the Fund to Support Historic Alna: http://www.historicalna.org.

The award winning and highly acclaimed band Le Vent du Nord is a leading force in Quebec’s progressive francophone folk movement. The group’s vast repertoire draws from both traditional sources and original compositions, while enhancing its hard-driving soulful music (rooted in the Celtic diaspora) with a broad range of global influences. “Featuring button accordion, guitar and fiddle, the band’s sound is defined by the hurdy-gurdy, which adds an earthy, rough-hewn flavor to even the most buoyant dance tunes.” — Boston Herald. Since its inception in August 2002, Le Vent du Nord has enjoyed meteoric success, performing well over 2,000 concerts over 4 continents and racking up several prestigious awards, including a Grand Prix du Disque Charles Cros, two Junos (Canada’s Grammys), a Félix at ADISQ, a Canadian Folk Music Award, and “Artist of the
Year” at the North American Folk Alliance Annual Gala. Generously sponsored by an anonymous fan of the band! Advance discount tickets $30, available only from the box office at 207-633-5159 (open Wed – Fri from 10-2). Regular tickets $35 online

Legendary filmmaker, writer, actor, and artist John Waters returns to The Waldo with an all-new show, The Naked Truth! Ok, John Waters is finally coming clean, so to speak, and his all-new, secret-sharing, one-man crackpot comedy show dares to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the filthy truth. Over-sharing? You bet. Too much information? Maybe so, but airing his dirty laundry makes Waters feel clean. He’ll talk to you straight even when he’s definitely not.
Waters knows the truth isn’t always pretty and he doesn’t shy away from the social horrors of our present times–-whimsical motion pictures, the humiliation of the human body and the unwanted nudity of fellow travelers in the airport. Yet Waters knows he’s not perfect either. He too has flaws. No matter what he preaches, he does judge others and in his show he names names and assigns blame. He stylishly blows up prejudice, humorously overthrows theocracy, and falls off the soapbox of self-righteous sexual politics and climbs right back on with a revolutionary horniness for a woke poke. Yessiree, Waters tells you the truth. The Naked Truth. Shut up and listen. Famed the world over for his trash epics including Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble, Polyester, Serial Mom, Cry Baby, Hairspray, and coming soon to the big screen, the film adaptation of his brilliantly twisted first novel, Liarmouth: A Feel-Bad Romance. The recipient of numerous honors and accolades, most recently the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures opened “John Waters: Pope of Trash,” the first comprehensive exhibition dedicated to his contributions to cinema. He was also awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and American Cinema Editors selected
Waters to receive the ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award in 2024. Dreamland News : John Waters
