Because driving represents independence and freedom for most older adults, the idea of limiting or giving up driving can be a deeply personal and emotional issue. Therefore Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center is proud to introduce AARP’s new safe driving for a lifetime seminar focused finding the right words to use when one needs to talk to older drivers about taking away the keys. This free seminar, which will take place on August 20 at 10:30 a.m. at Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center, 521 Main Street in Damariscotta provides the tools and tips that will help guide families, caregivers and friends in determining when it’s time for their loved ones to limit their tome behind the wheel or to hang up the keys.
While knowing when the time is right can be hard, surveys show that more than half of older drivers whose family asked them to retire from driving said they listened to and followed the suggestions of others. Invaluable advice will be offered by AARP driver safety instruction Court Dwyer at this free seminar. Advanced registration required. Please call 563-1363 to express your interest.
