Keep Pemaquid Peninsula Beautiful, which helps build and sustain a clean, green, and more beautiful Pemaquid watershed region, has announced the launch of the 2016 Great American Cleanup.
Entering its 18th year, the Great American Cleanup is the country’s largest community-improvement program, occurring in more than 20,000 communities each spring. The Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup engages more than 4 million volunteers and participants across the country to take action in their local communities.
Keep Pemaquid Peninsula Beautiful, along with other organizations in Keep America Beautiful’s national network of community-based affiliates, is planning volunteer events that help remove litter and debris.
“This is a great opportunity to clean up the roadsides in our communities and recycle the materials found,” said Lynne Gilbert, Keep Pemaquid Peninsula Beautiful Steering Committee member.
This year’s Great American Cleanup theme is “Clean Your Block Party.” Several Great American Cleanup events will take place in the Pemaquid peninsula region in April.
Damariscotta neighborhood litter pickups will happen all month. Throughout April, volunteers can take the opportunity to walk their neighborhoods and pick up the winter’s accumulation of litter and debris.
