Agnes B. (Esancy) Worthley, 87, of Union, died March 31 at Full Circle Farm in Union.
She was born Aug. 25, 1923 in Rockland, a daughter of the late Burleigh and Gertrude (Wentworth) Esancy.
In 1963 she married Frank Addison Worthley.
Mrs. Worthley was a member of the People’s United Methodist Church in Union, where she served as a layperson, Sunday School teacher and Superintendent of the Sunday School and was past president of the United Methodist Women and was a 66-year member of Pioneer Grange #219 of Union and a member of Knox Pomona Grange #3. She was a member of the Maine State Grange and member of the Assembly of Demeter of the National Grange.
She was also a member of the Mystic Lodge of Rebekahs #51 in Warren, LAPM- Ladies Auxiliary Patriarchs & Militants Association and the Storer-Collins-Harding American Legion Post #110 Auxiliary in Union.
Mrs. Worthley enjoyed knitting, crocheting, handi-work, card games and the company of her friends. She was well known as expert in the creation of pies, peanut butter fudge and other delicious treats!
In addition to her husband of more than 10 years, she is preceded in death by her twin sister, Arlene Layer and sister, Mable Alley.
Mrs. Worthley is survived by son, Edward James Worthley of Union; daughter, Julia Worthley Jones and husband Eddward L. of Pensacola, Fla.; granddaughter, Ashley Jones Van Compernolle of Charleston, S.C.; great-grandsons, Garrett Wade and Aiden Lee Van Compernolle, both of Charleston, S.C.; brothers, Arnold Esancy of Union, Bernard Esancy of Raymond, N.H., Lloyd Esancy and wife Alice of Providence, R.I., Leon Esancy of Chesapeake, Va. and Herman Esancy of Garner, N.C.; sisters, Winola Sinclair of Natick, Mass. and Thelma Lonn of Camden; and many nieces and nephews.
Time of visitation with Grange and Rebekah memorial services 6-8 p.m., Fri., April 8 at the Pioneer Grange Hall, at the intersection of Payson Rd. and Buzzell Hill Rd. in East Union. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a service to celebrate Mrs. Worthley’s life 1 p.m., Sat., April 9 at the People’s United Methodist Church, Depot St. (Rt. 235), Union. The Rev. George Hodgkins will officiate. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Union.
