Aileen Doolittle Hemingway, 87, died peacefully in her sleep at home on May 29 of natural causes. Mrs. Hemingway was born on the Nov. 10, 1927 in Los Angeles, Cal., the daughter of the late Andrew Hendryx Doolittle and Aileen Ballantyne Doolittle.
Mrs. Hemingway graduated from Choate Rosemary Hall and Bradford College (Class of 1947). She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Richard B. Hemingway, a student at Yale University, whom she met when she worked on that campus. After they married, their travels took them to west Texas; to California when her husband was a Marine Corp fighter pilot during the Korean War; and to Houston in 1954. She was member of the Bayou Club and the former Tejas Club. Mrs. Hemingway was a longtime volunteer at Planned Parenthood of Houston and the Town & Country Garden Club. She enjoyed spending her summers at the family residence on the coast of Maine.
She is survived by daughter, Mary Stuart Hemingway Crain and husband, John of Dallas, Tex., and their children Matthew and wife Christina, Sarah Hambric and husband Preston, and Margaret; son, Richard B. Hemingway Jr. and wife Patti of Houston, Tex., and their children, Caroline Harrell and husband John, Helen McLaughlin and husband Barton, and Madeline; son, Andrew D. Hemingway and wife Camilla of Barrington, R.I., and their children, Andrew and William; son, Thomas B. Hemingway and wife Amy of Houston, Tex., and their children, James and George; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Laura Hemingway; great grandchildren, Jackson Crain, Rose Hambric, Will Hambric, and Jack Harrell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service and inurnment will be held later this summer at Brookland Cemetery in Waldoboro.
