Alfred E. Lewis, 86, passed away on June 7 after a period of failing health.
Alfred was born Jan. 19, 1929 to Wendell M. and Mabel Barter Lewis. He attended local schools and graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School in 1947. In 1951, Alfred married Grace Lewis of Boothbay Harbor. He worked for J. H. Welch & Sons store, which he later purchased and ran for many years. He became Postmaster for the Town of Boothbay in 1962 and retired after more than 30 years of service.
Alfred was a member of the Boothbay Volunteer Fire Department and a 64-year member of the Bay View Masonic Lodge.
Alfred was predeceased by his parents; wife Grace; brothers, Harlan Lewis, Elmer Lewis, and Roland Lewis; and sister Myrtle Lewis Pickard.
He is survived by brothers, Stanley Lewis of Boothbay, and Donald Lewis and wife Betty of Elkton, Md.; sister, Jessie Lewis Steeves of Boothbay; sisters-in-law, Helen Lewis of Boothbay, and Yvonne Morrisette of New Hampshire; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours are 6 to 8 p.m., Thurs., June 11 at Hall’s of Boothbay, and a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Fri., June 12 at Hall’s of Boothbay with a graveside service to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Barters Island Road, Boothbay. There will be a reception to follow at the Boothbay Fire Station. All are welcome.
