Alfred Roy Ripley, 76, of Oakland passed away June 3 at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 30, 1938 in Whitefield, the son of Roy W. and Marion (Rancourt) Ripley.
He was educated in local schools and graduated from Cony High School. He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959 until his honorable discharge. He began working at Bath Iron Works in 1959. Throughout his career at BIW, Alfred served as a lead man for 10 years, was president of Local 6 Union for two terms, then became supervisor of the pipe shop until his retirement in 2000. Alfred was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved camping with family and friends, and was a Boy Scout leader, baseball coach, and a Mason. Alfred loved spending many vacations with his family at Moosehead Lake. His favorite times were with his children and grandchildren at Spencer Bay. In his spare time, you could find Alfred pushing dirt with his toy and best friend, his Kubota tractor.
He was predeceased by brother, Kenneth Ripley; and sister, Janet R. Seigars, who both died in 2000.
Alfred is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 55 and a half years, Marylou Ripley of Oakland; sons, Tracy Ripley and wife Cindy of Oakland, and Marty Ripley and partner Ray Harris of Winslow; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and two more on the way; and brother, Charles Ripley of Windsor.
At his request, there will be no visitation hours or funeral service, a Celebration of Life with family and friends will be held at his home in Oakland at 1 p.m., Sun., June 28.
