Allerton J. Hutchins, 96, of Gorham, died June 4. He was born in Wiscasset on Dec. 12, 1918, a son of Bernard and Sarah Malloy Hutchins. Allerton was a graduate of Wiscasset High School and then served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was present at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked. He worked for Central Maine Railroad in Augusta for many years. After retirement he worked for Shaw’s. Allerton enjoyed dancing, karaoke, and was a member of the American Legion Post 197. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Kora Temple Shrine.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Dorothy; brothers, Bernard Hutchins and Clifton Hutchins; and sister, Regina Spicker.
Survivors include his life partner, Norma Allen of Gorham; sisters-in-law, Ellie Hutchins of Portland, and Barbara Hutchins of Georgia; nephews, David Hutchins of Missouri, Dana Hutchins and wife Sara of Hollis, and Barney Hutchins of Georgia; nieces, Karen Montgomery of Scarborough, Kathy Chick of Georgia and Debbie Cruse of Florida; and several grand nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Fri., June 12 at Brooklawn Memorial Park, Outer Congress Street, Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, 383 US Rt. 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
