Annette H. Brooks, 93, of Rockland, died July 9 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
She was born May 3, 1922 in Jefferson, a daughter of the late Arthur S. and Marion (Achorn) Hall. She was a graduate of Lincoln Academy in Newcastle, a member of the class of 1940, and the Gorham State Teachers College in 1943.
On Aug. 8, 1943 she married Joseph F. Brooks, Jr. in Camden while he was serving in the U.S. military. Upon his return they made their home in Waldoboro. For more than thirty-one years, Mrs. Brooks taught children at the Friendship Street Elementary School in Waldoboro and the McDougal School in Rockland.
After the death of her husband, she became a very active volunteer and participant at Pen Bay Medical Center, and was a member of the Congregational Church of Rockland, Ladies Guild, the Order of the Eastern Star, P.E.O. Sisterhood International (an organization that promotes the advancement of women), Owls Head Garden Club, the National Education Association, the Knox County Retired Teachers, and several bridge groups. She enjoyed gardening, reading, volunteering, cooking, sewing, knitting and traveling with her many friends.
Devotion to her family, church friends, and her community prevailed as a purpose in her life.
Mrs. Brooks is survived by grandniece, Holly House and husband Victor; nephew-in-law, Donald Payson Jr.; grandnephew, Donald Payson III; and several cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to join her family in celebrating Annette’s life during the morning worship service, 10 a.m., Sun., July 26 at the Rockland Congregational Church, 180 Limerock St., Rockland.
