Anthony R. Squillante, 88, of Boothbay Harbor, died at his home Aug. 10.
Anthony was born in Dedham, Mass. on Aug. 10, 1920, the son of Aniello and Antoinette Vitelli Squillante.
Anthony worked for Gulf Oil in Massachusetts and Staten Island, N.J. for many years. In WWII he was a Corporal in the Army Air Corp.
He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace, Catholic Church in Boothbay Harbor and formed the Knights of Columbus at the church along with Father Marcel Chouinard. He was a member of the Knights for 62 years. He worked with the Knights and raised money for them. His children meant the world to him.
Cooking and gardening were some of his favorite things to do. He also was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Anthony was predeceased by four sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Emma Squillante of Boothbay Harbor; son, Tony Squillante and wife Beverly of Boothbay; daughters, Marie Needler and husband Leo of Mansfield, Mass., and Annette Nager and husband Eric of Boothbay; grandchildren, George Chalifoux and wife Lisa of Mansfield, Mass., Nick and Kara Squillante of Boothbay, and Sabrina, Troy, and Seth Nager of Boothbay; great grandchildren, Sara and JD Chalifoux of Mansfield, Mass.; sister, Christine Scopa of Dedham, Mass., and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral mass 2 p.m., Thurs., Aug. 14 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 82 Atlantic Ave., Boothbay Harbor.
