Arthur V. Reed, 78 of Wiscasset, died with his family by his side on July 21 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Edgecomb April 9, 1933, the son of David Reed of Lisbon Falls and Myrtle Brewer of Wiscasset. He attended local schools and entered the Army in 1954 and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Maine Antique Motor Association. He served the Town of Wiscasset as a supervisor of the Treatment Plant as well as the Wiscasset Fire Department until his retirement. For many years he repaired small engines and equipment from his shop at home. He always enjoyed people stopping by to shoot the breeze with him and helping out anyone in time of need.
He was predeceased by his lovely wife, Phyllis Reed; brother, Alvin Reed; sisters, Nancy Gray and Josephine Reed; father, David Reed and stepmother, Vi Reed; mother, Myrtle and father, Ronald Brewer of Wiscasset.
He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Ethier and son-in-law, Art of Wiscasset; son, Richard Brewer and companion Pam of Edgecomb; brothers, Don Brewer and wife Bobbi of Wiscasset, Paul Reed and wife Caroline of Lisbon and Lloyd Reed and wife Sally of Lisbon Falls; sisters, Sally and husband Norman Bellrose of Gorham, N.H., Mary Reed of Lisbon Falls, Hortense Blanchard of Rumford and Betty and Doug Goodenow of Lisbon Falls; grandchildren, Tammy Saxton of Wiscasset, Jody Reed and fiancée Jodi Rae Nessmith of Westport, Mike Brewer and wife Sara of Boothbay, Shawn Brewer and Jennifer Brewer of Boothbay; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; companion, Harriet Larson of Wiscasset; best friends, Larry and Norma Gordon of Wiscasset, Jim and Carol Curit and Reggie Lee and wife; and so many more close friends too numerous to write down.
Graveside service 11 a.m., Sat., July 30 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset with military and fire department honors.
Flowers may be sent to the burial site prior to 11 a.m. that day.
