Aubrey “Hoopie” Waltz, 75, of Nobleboro, passed away after a brief illness on the morning of Sept. 11 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland. Born in Newcastle on Jan. 2 1935, he was the son of Sewall and Irene (Robinson) Waltz.
Hoopie grew up in Newcastle and attended Lincoln Academy. On Jan. 28, 1956, he married Carolyn “Tammy” Reay and they would be married for nearly 42 years until her death in 1997.
Hoopie worked for Nissen Baking Company for several years, delivering to many familiar faces and businesses throughout the area. Upon his retirement from Nissen in 1986, he went to work for Damariscotta Bank & Trust. He continued to work at DB&T on a daily basis.
He loved to socialize and looked for any excuse to do so. He had a regular poker night that he looked forward to with friends, enjoyed watching his grandson race at Wiscasset Raceway, going to Bangor Hollywood slots, and spending time with his brothers and sisters; he loved to fish and had become a world wide traveler in recent years. He never lost his keen sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh.
He was a member of the Alna-Anchor Masonic Lodge #43, and Sons of the American Legion, he was a Shriner, and was also a member of the Elks Club.
He was predeceased by his parents as well as his wife, Carolyn “Tammy” Waltz.
He is survived by his long-time companion, Poppy Truchon of Nobleboro; children and their spouses, Rodney and Germaine Waltz of Jefferson, Audrey and Mark Prior of Bristol, and Randall and Ricki Waltz of Damariscotta; brothers and sisters and their families, Priscilla Hatch, Carroll and Florence Waltz, Gertrude Pinkham, Raymond and Shirley Waltz, Robert and Patty Waltz, Henry Waltz, Margaret and George (Podger) Russell, Frankie and Kathy Waltz, Judy Campbell and Arthur Dalton, and Gloria and Scotty Phillips; grandchildren, Justin, Correy, Matt, Tracy, Kelsey, Nicholas and Alex; four great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Time of visitation 6-8 p.m., Tues., Sept. 14 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. Service 11 a.m., Wed., Sept. 15 also at the funeral home. A reception will follow at the American Legion in Damariscotta.
