Aubrey Wray Fitch, Jr., 94, of Newcastle, passed away on Sept. 28 in Newcastle.
Born in Annapolis, Md., son of the late Admiral Aubrey Wray and Gwyneth Fitch, he attended St. James School in Maryland, and graduated from the University of Virginia and the Graduate School of Business, Harvard University.
In 1939, he joined U.S. Steel Export, later U.S. Steel International. During his career, he spent many years overseas. Fitch retired to the family home in Newcastle in 1978.
During WWII, he served in the Pacific area, receiving the Bronze Star Medal and Pacific Area Medal with five battle stars, and retiring later as Commander, USNR.
Surviving are a son, A. Wray Fitch III of McLean, Va.; daughter, Francesca Fitch Ferguson of Atlanta, Ga.; and six grandchildren. Fitch was divorced from Laura Serra of Genova, Italy.
