Augusta Peabody Baker Thorndike, 83, of South Bristol, wife of the late Augustus Thorndike, Jr., passed away peacefully on the morning of Dec. 23 at home with close friends present.
The daughter of the late Theodore Colcord and Edith Prescott Baker, she was born in Cambridge, Mass., March 8, 1924.
She married her husband, Gus, in 1942. They bought their house in South Bristol in 1978 and moved there in 1989.
She was a sports fanatic who played many sports extremely well and loved Maine because of the wonderful people who live there.
After raising her children, she worked in real estate for many years.
She was the mother of Augustus III and wife Melissa of Westwood, Mass., Frances P. of New York City, N.Y., the late Theodore B., and Robert A. and his wife Gail of Needham, Mass. She also leaves grandchildren, Elizabeth F., R. Amory, and Margaret A. Thorndike; sister, Cornelia B. Baxter of Westport, Mass. and Bristol; her late brother, Theodore C. Baker, Jr. and wife Gretchen of Vt.; and her identical twin, Frances B. MacAusland of Dedham, Mass.
Service 1 p.m., Fri., Jan. 18 at 379 Hammond St., Chestnut Hill, Mass. A Maine service will be held in the spring or early summer.
