Barbara Horton Guard, 86, formerly of Riverside, Conn., died April 15 at St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor. She was born Dec. 3, 1919 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of James D. Horton and Henrietta S. Baker Horton. She graduated from the Metropolitan School of Nursing in New York in 1942. Early in her career she worked as a R.N. in New Rochelle, NY and Bridgeport, Conn. For many years she was employed at the office of Drs. Murray, Bolton, Keller and Prunier in Greenwich, Conn. She enjoyed sailing, swimming, needlework, gardening, and taking care of her family. She was very active with Meals on Wheels and Call a Ride programs in Greenwich, Conn. She was a Sunday School instructor and Girl Scout leader. She was a member of the Congregational Church of Old Greenwich and the Woman’s Fellowship. Barbara and her husband were residents of Riverside, Conn. for 52 years before moving to Boothbay Harbor in 2002. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Henry L. Guard of Boothbay Harbor; son, James Guard and wife Mary of San Juan Island, Wash.; daughters, Barbara Guard Hamilton and husband Edward of Edgecomb and Judith Guard of Riverside, Conn.; six grandchildren, William Clifford of Edgecomb, Lisa Clifford of Walpole, Kate Hamilton of Edgecomb, and Julia Blandori, Paul Blandori, Jr. and Rachel Blandori, all of Riverside, Conn.; and three great grandchildren. Funeral service 11 a.m., Tues., April 18 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay. Burial at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, N.Y.
