Barbara Mern Rustin passed away on Nov. 5 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, N.C. A person of deep faith, Barbara died peacefully, secure in the knowledge that she would live again with her Lord and Savior. Born in Selma, Ala. on April 20, 1942, she spent her early years in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in Syosset, N.Y.
Barbara gave many years of service as a secretary in hospital emergency rooms in Maine and New Hampshire. Among her homes before arriving in Goldsboro were Rockland and Waldoboro and Keene, N.H. Her last years were spent living in the Kirkwood Retirement Community.
She was predeceased by her parents, Howard Frank Rustin, M.D. and Helen Mern Rustin.
Barbara is survived by sisters, Jane and Belzora Rustin; nephews, Richard Rustin Perlungher (Nicole) of Indian Trail, N.C., and Thomas Henry Perlungher (Sarah) of Greenville, N.C.; and adored great-nieces and nephew, Ellie, Grace and Jonathan Perlungher.
Kind and generous, Barbara was greatly loved by her family and friends. A lover of all animals, Barbara gave a wonderful home to many rescued cats who also became part of her family.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., Nov. 18 at the Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro, N.C. with Rev. Barry Williamson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
