Bert A. Arsenault, 73, of Bath, died July 1 at Winship Green Nursing Center after a brief illness.
Mr. Arsenault was born in Otisfield March 5, 1935, the son of Francis and Mabel Arsenault, and attended Arrowsic schools.
A longtime employee of Bath Iron Works, he worked as a rigger, operating the yard’s distinctive orange and white crane, retiring at age 65 after 45 years of employment.
Along with his wife, Joan, he loved to make and give away peanut butter fudge, especially at Fatboy’s in Brunswick, whose owners referred to them as Mr. and Mrs. Fudge.
He is predeceased by his wife Joan Martin Arsenault, who died June 16, 2007.
Survivors include three sons, Dean Arsenault and wife Kathleen, Barry Arsenault, and Martin Arsenault, all of Bath; daughter, Virginia Gillis of Brockport, N.Y.; grandchildren, Tammy Sue Arsenault of Brunswick, Martina, Aurora and Bradley Arsenault, all of Bath, and Travis and Amanda, both of New York; five brothers, Francis J. Arsenault and wife Betty of Glendora, Cal., Gerald G. Arsenault and wife Carol of Oakland, Cal., Girard G. Arsenault and wife Nancy of Skowhegan, Robert A. Arsenault and wife Avis of Phippsburg, and Joseph Arsenault and wife Janette of West Bath; and three sisters, Linda M. Vance of Orange Park, Fla., Madelyn A. Emmons of Woolwich, and Katheryn M. Duarte of Colchester, Conn.
Visitation 6-8 p.m., Mon., July 7 at the Simmons Harrington and Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay. Interment will be private.
Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation, 163 Lancaster St., Suite 98R, Portland, ME 04101 in Mr. Arsenault’s memory.
