Beverly A. Pechtel, 81, of Amsterdam, N.Y., daughter of Ralph and Erma Tweedie, passed away peacefully on Oct. 29 at Albany Medical Centre, N.Y.
Bev was born in Unity on May 24, 1932, graduated from Waterville High School in 1950 and employed by Royal Studio in Waterville prior to her marriage to the late Cornelius K. Clauson on July 14, 1951.
During her Waterville residency Bev was a member of the Waterville Democratic Women’s Club, the Waterville Jayceettes, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Waterville Women’s Club and the Sisters Hospital Auxiliary.
Bev was a resident of Damariscotta from June 1970 to June 1975. She worked at Yellowfront Grocery for quite some time.
On May 23, 1975 Bev married Julius “Bunky” Pechtel and moved to Amsterdam, N.Y. in 1981 where she became a macramé instructor, a 4H leader, an arts and crafts judge at the Fonda County Fair and a 28-year member and sponsor of A.A.
Surviving Bev are her husband Bunky; sons, Steve Clauson and wife Sue from Windham, Doug Pechtel from Johnstown, N.Y., and Daryl Pechtel and wife Cindy from Broadalbin, N.Y.; daughters, Julie Moore and husband Richard from Clifton Park, N.Y., Ruth “Sissy” Brown and husband Mike from Caroga Lake N.Y., and Sarah “Becky” Cook and husband Chip from Bleecker, N.Y.; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and hundreds of extended-family members from A.A. who considered Bev their matriarch.
