Burton Thomas Smith, 82, of Waldoboro, died the morning of Sept. 11 at his home of a massive heart attack.
He was born April 6, 1929 at home in Butler, N.J. Except for two years during the Korean Conflict, he never lived more than three blocks from his birthplace, until moving to Maine in June 1980.
In New Jersey he ran his own auto repair shop, worked for a machine shop and finished his career there at the regional office of State Farm Insurance.
In Maine he worked for Parmalee Builders in Waldoboro, then painted houses in the Lincoln County area. His last work “out” was The WWWRS – The West Waldoboro Widow Repair Service.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret of Waldoboro; sons, Paul and wife Betsey Mauro of Olivet, Mich. and David of Richmond; grandsons, Joshua and Aaron Maxwell of Tenants Harbor; granddaughter, Sari Mauro of Boston, Mass.; sister, Geraldine Emsley of Sellersville, Penn.; sister-in-law, Jane Hilhard of Millville, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at the convenience of his family.
