Candasa E. Epstein, 93, of Newcastle, passed away on the evening of Aug. 2 while in the care of the devoted staff of the Harbor View Cottage, a part of the Lincoln Home. Born in Denison, Tex. on Feb. 19, 1924, she was the daughter of Clyde and Loreta (Pearson) Edwards.
Candasa was a prolific artist who mainly worked in oils, watercolor and pastels. Before she even entered public school in Texas, her talent was noticed and supported. After high school in Van Alstyne, Tex., she traveled to Woodstock and New York City to study art. While there, she met Sylvan Epstein and they married in 1951. Many in the Epstein family adored her.
Decades later, she moved to Carmel, Cal. where she studied textiles and photography. Moving back to New York City, she and her husband worked as commercial photographers.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Sylvan Epstein; and sister, Margaret Edwards.
Local friends here in Maine, the Little family of Alexandria and Fairfax, Va.; along with a niece, Carole Schaefer of Asheville, N.C., mourn her passing.
She will be laid to rest privately.
Condolences, and messages for her family, may be expressed by visiting www.StrongHancock.com.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta.
