Carleton M. Munro, 91, of Round Pond, died Jan. 15 at Togus Veterans Hospital after a long illness.
Carleton was born Nov. 15, 1916, in Medford, Mass., the son of Leon P. and Edna B. Geyer Munro. He attended Hanover High School.
Carl worked at the Civilian Conservation Corps camp in Vermont before enlisting in the service. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was a Carpenter s Mate First Class and a PT boat crewmember during WWII. He was injured in an explosion and spent many months recuperating in a Boston hospital.
Carl loved working with his hands and was well known for his gardening skills. He was a very generous man who enjoyed sharing his vegetables with friends and neighbors, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Carl worked at several businesses in the local area.
A longtime Mason, Carl was a member of Bristol # 74 A.F. & A.M. for over 25 years. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans, as well as a life member of the Scottish Clan Munro USA and Scotland.
Survivors include brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Avis Munro of Orange Park, Fla.; sister, Leona Phyllis Schneider of St. Augustine, Fla.; sister-in-law, Sylvia Munro, of Montpelier, Vt.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, including Donald Meakin of Round Pond who helped Carl in many ways as his health was declining; and his niece, Martha Chadwick Vance of South Portland.
Interment will be in the Chamberlain Cemetery, Round Pond. The family will have a private burial at a later date.
