Claire Helen (Peters) Schrock, 77, of Jefferson, passed away Aug. 6 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, due to complications following surgery.
Claire was born Oct. 8, 1930 in Fitchburg, Mass., the daughter of Gilbert John Peters, and Leah (LeBlanc) Peters, both predeceased of Fitchburg, Mass., and had lived for many years in Central Massachusetts, in Fitchburg, and briefly in Palmer, Mass. She graduated from Fitchburg (Mass.) High School Class of 1948, and had worked in the Fitchburg area before moving to the San Diego area, where she married her husband of 56 year, Donald F. Schrock. They lived in the San Diego area until after the Korean War, when they moved back to Fitchburg, Mass., while also living in Townsend, Mass. for close to 30 years. In her retirement, they moved to the Deer Meadow section of Bunker Hill Rd., up to her death.
Claire was well known in Townsend, Mass. for her work for Elsa Williams Needlecraft, from 1966 to 1973, where she had taught the art of needlecraft, and was acknowledged in many of the publications sold by the company. Also, she loved organic gardening, and had helped run the family farm known as “Acres N’ Pains”, while living in Townsend, Mass., and continued such for the last 18 years in Jefferson, where her asparagus, corn, and flowers were enjoyed by many neighbors. She also enjoyed playing Bingo, listening to concert/jazz music and loved canning her vegetables.
During her 18 years in Jefferson, was well known for her passion for Democratic politics as Claire had served as the recording secretary for the Lincoln County Democratic Committee, from 1990-1992, and also was the Jefferson Town Democratic Chairperson, from 1995-1998. She also represented Lincoln County as a subcommittee member for the 1992 Maine State Democratic Convention, and served as an election clerk for the Town of Jefferson during the 1990s.
Claire’s sister, Jacqueline I. Gauthier, formerly of Jefferson, predeceased her in 2006.
She was survived by her two brothers, John G. Peters of Lunenburg, Mass., and Donald J. Peters of Winchendon, Mass.; one sister, Cecille Thomas of Rindge, N.H.; three sons, Donald J. Schrock of Peterborough, N.H., David S. and wife Susan Schrock of Jacksonville, N.C., and Daniel E. Schrock of Jefferson; daughter, Heidi A. Crim of Townsend, Mass., and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
At Claire’s request, services will be private at the convenience of her family. Interment will be private.
