Clifton E. Crummett, 75, of Washington, passed away April 23 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland after a period of failing health.
Clifton was born June 4, 1935 in Somerville, the son of Charles and Mildred Erving Crummett, and attended Somerville schools. He left school early upon the untimely death of his father to work in the woods, using his wages to support his family.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping, was known to have the biggest vegetable garden in Washington for many years, enjoyed going to dances, especially at the Goodwill Circle Hall, and, for the last few years, spending time with his grandsons, teaching them to drive the tractor and four wheelers, and attending their baseball games.
Clifton was a longtime member of the Sportsman Alliance of Maine, and the National Rifle Association.
Fighting diabetes for most of his life, he has been a long-time client of the Damariscotta Dialysis Unit, which the family sincerely thanks the entire staff for their care and friendship over the years.
Clifton is predeceased by his wife Janet Richards Crummett, who died in 2002, and brother Clyde Crummett.
Survivors include sons, Damon Crummett and companion Coco, of Waldoboro, and Dalton Crummett and companion Lorie Mank of West Washington; grandsons, Braden Crummett of West Washington and Cody Crummett of Waldoboro; brother, Orin “Buddy” Crummett of Somerville; sisters, Ethel Bartlett of Washington and Lessie Lloy of Coopers Mills; and several nieces and nephews.
