Constance (Thomas) Thornton, 78, of West Boothbay Harbor, formerly of Manchester, Conn., died Oct. 1.
Connie was born on May 25, 1932 in West Boothbay Harbor, daughter of the late John and Dorothy Hildreth Thomas and granddaughter of the late John and Mertie (Bowman) Thomas, who raised Connie from early childhood. She graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School with the class of 1950, and in August 2010 attended her 60th high school class reunion. After graduating high school Connie moved to Hartford, Conn. and worked briefly at the Hartford Telephone Company and Travelers Insurance.
Connie was a stay at home mom raising her two children, cooking her family wholesome meals and keeping a nice clean house.
Connie enjoyed feeding her many chipmunks and birds, visits from her close friends and watching the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team. She also loved to eat out in local restaurants. Connie was also especially close to her many cats and dogs she had over the years.
She is survived by her husband and companion of 54 years, Robert Thornton; daughter, Deborah Thornton of Farmington, N.H.; son, Jeffrey R. Thornton and wife Sheila of Enfield, Conn.; granddaughter, Aleah Kaszycki and husband Matthew; grandson, Shawn Thornton, all of Enfield, Conn.; beloved pets, Molly and Caleb; many dear friends including Connie Wright, her neighbors Ron and Lorrie Richardson, Beverly Januska, Curtis West, Ramona Gaudette; and devoted caretakers, Val, Brenda, Beth, Liz, and Meredith.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Thurs., Oct. 7 the Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay. Visitation 12-2 p.m., Fri., Oct. 8, followed by a celebration of Connie’s life at the funeral home.
