Cornelia “Gail” Grundy, 75, of Wiscasset, died Nov. 17 at her residence.
She was born in Boston, Mass. on June 25, 1942, a daughter of Lawrence G. and Hellena V. (Bergstrom) Leigh Sr. She graduated from Medway High School and on May 26, 1962 she married John J. Grundy. They moved to Wiscasset in 1978. She was employed with the DoD-Supervisor of Shipbuilding in Bath and later in retail in Brunswick.
Gail was an active member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Wiscasset, serving as altar guild, a lay reader, on the Women of St. Philip’s, the choir, and cooking suppers for the church. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading, cake decorating and especially spending time with family and friends. One of her many joys was listening to the banter during Forced Family Fun held at their home twice each year.
Gail was predeceased by son, Jason M. Grundy; brother, Lawrence G. Leigh Jr.; and sister, Victoria K. Grant.
She is survived by husband, John J. Grundy of Wiscasset; son, John E. Grundy and wife Leigh of Stow, Mass.; daughters, Christine G. Grundy of Wiscasset, and Jennifer L. G. Trowbridge and husband Andrew of Ellsworth; four granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Sat., Nov. 25 at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Hodge St., Wiscasset. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Church Fellowship Hall. Burial will be at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery in Medway, Mass.
