Cynthia H. Orne, 87, of Boothbay Harbor, died March 30 at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta.
She was born in Berea, Ky. on Jan. 8, 1927, a daughter of John D. and Martha J. (McQueen) Hallowell. She attended Erskine Academy in China and she received her GED at the age of 70 from Boothbay Regional High School. On June 10, 1950 she married Duane “Dane” M. Orne. She was employed as a telephone operator for many years.
She was a longtime member of the Bible Baptist Church in Wiscasset. She cooked for the Rotary and Lions Clubs in Boothbay Harbor and also cooked for Cabbage Island for several years.
Cynthia was very artistic, enjoyed crafts, gardening and especially her time with family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Duane Orne on Dec. 3, 2003; brothers, Frank Hallowell, Willard Hallowell, and Arthur Hallowell; sisters, Carrie Trask, and Lois Abbott; son-in-law, Gerald “Murph” Murphy; grandson, Michael Pelletier; and great-granddaughter, Paige Murphy.
She is survived by son, John Orne and wife Cathy of Edgecomb; daughters, Jane Murphy and husband Patrick of Wiscasset, Julie Murphy of Edgecomb, Jean Labbe and husband Robert of Westbrook, and Joy Andrews of Waverly Hall, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m., Thurs., April 3 at the Bible Baptist Church in Wiscasset with Pastor Rob Green officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow in church fellowship hall. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in Boothbay Harbor.
